Holly Miranda Smale is a British writer born on December 7, 1981, in Hertfordshire, England. She is renowned for her popular Geek Girl series. The first book in the series won the 2014 Waterstones Children's Book Prize and was shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize 2013. The series culminated with the publication of the final book, Forever Geek, by HarperCollins in March 2017.
In June 2023, Holly released her first adult novel, titled The Cassandra Complex in the UK and Cassandra in Reverse in the US, which was featured as a pick for Reese's Book Club and the BBC Radio 2 Book Club.
Holly has been an avid writer since the age of four, creating her own books from cereal boxes. She has a BA in English Literature and an MA in Shakespeare from Bristol University. Her diverse career path includes experiences as a teen model, factory worker, PR personnel, and teacher in Japan. She is also the co-creator, writer, and executive producer of the Geek Girl TV show, set to premiere on Netflix worldwide and StackTV in Canada on May 30, 2024.
At the age of 39, Holly was diagnosed with autism and dyspraxia. She actively writes and speaks about neurodiversity and other random topics. Holly currently resides in Hove, England.
