Holly Goldberg Sloan

Holly Goldberg Sloan was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1958 and led a peripatetic childhood as she traveled with her family across the globe, living in places like California, the Netherlands, Istanbul, Washington, D.C., and Oregon. Her father was a professor, and her mother was an architect, which led to their frequent relocations.

Holly attended Wellesley College and spent her junior year at Dartmouth College. After graduating, she moved to New York City, where she worked at Grey Advertising. A year later, she relocated to Los Angeles and sold her first screenplay to Paramount Pictures at the age of 24. Holly supported herself for the next decade working in commercial advertising before becoming a successful writer and director in the film industry.

Holly has written and directed numerous family feature films, including "Angels in the Outfield" and "The Big Green." She also wrote "Made in America" and "The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course." Her children's film "Heidi 4 Paws" featured dogs in costume roles and aired on Public Television in the U.S. and Canada.

Holly's debut novel, "I'll Be There," marked her entry into the literary world. Her subsequent book, "Counting By 7s," was lauded as Amazon's best middle-grade novel of the year. Other notable works include "Just Call My Name" and "Appleblossom the Possum."

Holly resides in Santa Monica, California, with her husband, writer Gary Rosen, and is the mother of two sons. She is a sports fan, a cooking enthusiast, and a contributing editor for Amy Ephron's food blog, "One for the Table." Holly finds joy in writing, taking long walks by the Pacific Ocean, and spending evenings with family and friends.

Holly considers "I'll Be There" as the most rewarding work of her career. She envisions a perfect day as one filled with writing, ocean walks, and family gatherings around her dining table. Known for her love of animals, she believes no dog is unworthy of her admiration.
