Hilary Leichter is the author of the novels Temporary and Terrace Story. Her debut novel Temporary was a finalist for The Center for Fiction First Novel Prize and the NYPL Young Lions Fiction Prize, and was longlisted for the PEN/Hemingway Award. Temporary was also a New York Times Editors' Choice and named a best book of 2020 by NPR, Elle, Vulture, and Publishers Weekly.
Leichter's writing has been featured in prestigious publications such as The New Yorker, n+1, The New York Times, and Conjunctions. Her work in Harper's Magazine earned her the 2021 National Magazine Award in Fiction. She has received fellowships from Yaddo, the Folger Shakespeare Library, and the New York Foundation for the Arts. Leichter was the summer 2022 Picador Guest Professor for Literature at the University of Leipzig and was named one of Crain's 40 Under 40 in 2023.
She is the Undergraduate Creative Writing Adviser in Fiction at Columbia University, where she teaches. Her new novel, Terrace Story, was published by Ecco in August 2023. Hilary resides in Brooklyn, NY.
