Hélène Berr was a French Jewish woman born on 27 March 1921 in Paris, France. She is best known for documenting her life in a diary during the Nazi occupation of France. Her diary provides a poignant insight into the trials faced by French Jews during World War II.
Often compared to Anne Frank, she is regarded in France as a "French Anne Frank." Tragically, she died from typhus on 10 April 1945 at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Lower Saxony, Nazi Germany. Hélène Berr's diary has been published in French and translated into English, allowing many readers to access her moving account of life under Nazi rule.
