Helen C. Escott

Helen C. Escott is an award-winning, bestselling Canadian author and playwright. She began her career with a decade in radio and TV before joining the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1998 as a Senior Communication Strategist. After retiring in 2014, she started writing novels full-time.

Known as a prolific writer, she has penned eight novels and one play. Her novel Operation Wormwood was shortlisted for the Crime Writers of Canada's Best First Crime Novel award. Operation Vanished won the Silver Medal – Best Regional Fiction at the 24th annual Independent Publisher Book Awards. Operation Masonic was a finalist for the 2023 Best Atlantic-Published Book award by the Atlantic Publishers Marketing Association (APMA).

Flanker Press recently announced that Escott’s five-book Operation Series has been optioned by Rink Rat Productions for film and television. This series is set in Newfoundland and Labrador and follows the careers of Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Sgt. Nicholas Myra and RCMP Corporal Gail McNaughton. It is a bestselling, award-winning series known for its lightning-paced, current criminal investigations filled with surprising twists and unpredictable conclusions.

In July 2024, Escott and Flanker Press released her eighth novel, We Will Meet Again, a love story of four generations of women of Newfoundland and Labrador during the Second World War. It honors the women who kept the home fires burning during the war and touches on everything sacred in the province, including Nan, Jesus, and Elvis.

Helen Escott, a retired Civilian Member of the RCMP, was the communications lead on significant events, including the RCMP’s response to the September 11th terrorist attacks. She created and taught a media relations course across Canada and served as a communications strategist at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

In recognition of her achievements, she received several awards:

  • 2017 - The CLB Governor and Commandants Medallion for excellence in volunteering and fundraising.
  • 2019 - Governor General's Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers.
  • 2021 - Veterans Ombud Commendation Lifetime Contribution Award.
  • 2022 - Certificate of Recognition from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador for her work and dedication to Veterans.
