Hannu Rajaniemi is a Finnish-American author renowned for his work in science fiction and fantasy. Born on March 9, 1978, in Ylivieska, Finland, he writes in both English and Finnish. He resides in Oakland, California, and was a founding director of the technology consultancy company, ThinkTank Maths.

Rajaniemi holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Oulu, a Certificate of Advanced Study in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, and a Ph.D. in Mathematical Physics from the University of Edinburgh. Before pursuing his doctoral studies, he served as a research scientist for the Finnish Defence Forces as part of his national service.

During his time in Edinburgh, Rajaniemi became a member of Writers' Bloc, a writers' group that organizes semi-regular spoken word events.
