Hampton Sides is a renowned American historian, author, and journalist born in 1962. He is famous for his bestselling works of narrative history and literary non-fiction, including Hellhound on His Trail, Ghost Soldiers, Blood and Thunder, and On Desperate Ground.

Sides serves as the editor-at-large for Outside magazine and has contributed to a variety of esteemed periodicals such as National Geographic, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, Esquire, Men's Journal, The American Scholar, Smithsonian, and The Washington Post. His magazine work has been collected in numerous published anthologies and has been twice nominated for National Magazine Awards for feature writing.
