Gregory Joseph Boyle, S.J., known as Father Greg Boyle, is an American Catholic priest of the Jesuit order. Born on May 19, 1954, he is best known as the founder and director of Homeboy Industries, the world's largest gang intervention, rehabilitation, and re-entry program.
Father Greg Boyle became the pastor of Dolores Mission Church in Los Angeles, a community known for having the highest concentration of gang activity. Recognizing the urgent need for intervention, he established Homeboy Industries in 1988 to improve the lives of former gang members. The initiative has grown significantly, offering numerous services, including employment, re-entry programs, tattoo removal, and substance abuse resources.
In addition to his work with Homeboy Industries, Fr. Boyle is an internationally renowned speaker, often discussing the importance of guidance and unconditional love in preventing youth from joining gangs. He has addressed numerous universities and conferences, including the White House Conference on Youth in 2005. His impactful work has earned him the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2024.
