Ginny Rorby is an American young adult novelist born on August 9, 1944. She was raised in Winter Park, Florida, and lived in Miami during her career as a Pan American flight attendant. She pursued a degree in biology at the University of Miami and later received an M.F.A. in creative writing from Florida International University.
Ginny Rorby has served as the co-director of the Mendocino Coast Writers Conference for eight years and currently resides in northern California.
She is the author of six novels for middle grade and young adult readers, including Freeing Finch, How to Speak Dolphin, and Lost in the River of Grass, the latter of which won the 2012/2013 Sunshine State Young Readers Award.
Advocate and Activist: Rorby is passionate about connecting children to the natural world and is an advocate for animal rights. Her experiences visiting the Sanford Zoo as a child sparked a lifelong commitment to animal welfare. She encourages readers to question the treatment and origins of animals used for entertainment.
