Gerard Arthur Way, born on April 9, 1977, is an American singer, songwriter, and comic book writer. Rising to fame as the lead vocalist and co-founder of the rock band My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way has also made a name for himself in the world of graphic novels. After the band's disbandment in 2013, Way released his debut solo album, Hesitant Alien, in 2014 and embarked on a solo tour.
As a comic book writer, Way co-created the critically acclaimed comic mini-series The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys and the Eisner Award-winning series The Umbrella Academy, which was adapted into a successful Netflix series in 2019. He is also the co-founder of the Young Animal imprint at DC Comics, where he oversees or writes several comics targeting adult audiences, including Doom Patrol. Notably, Way is the co-creator of Peni Parker, an alternative version of Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe.
