Gary D. Schmidt is an American author known for his children's and young adult fiction books. Born on April 14, 1957, he is renowned for his engaging storytelling and has been awarded the prestigious Newbery Honor for his contributions to literature.
Schmidt resides in Alto, Michigan, where he leads a busy life on a farm with his wife and six children. He enjoys splitting wood, planting gardens, writing, and feeding the wild cats that visit his property, all while wishing that the sea breeze could reach that far inland.
