Frank W. Abagnale

Frank William Abagnale Jr. (born April 27, 1948) is an American security consultant, author, and convicted felon known for his infamous frauds targeting individuals and small businesses. Gaining notoriety in the late 1970s, Abagnale claimed a diverse range of workplace frauds, many of which have been scrutinized and questioned over time.

In 1980, he co-wrote his autobiography, Catch Me If You Can, which inspired the 2002 film directed by Steven Spielberg, with Leonardo DiCaprio portraying Abagnale. He has authored four other books and runs Abagnale and Associates, a consulting firm.

Abagnale has made claims of working as an assistant state attorney general in Louisiana, serving as a hospital physician in Georgia, and impersonating a Pan American World Airways pilot logging over two million air miles. The credibility of these claims has been questioned, with Abagnale admitting in 2002 that some facts were overdramatized or exaggerated, without specifying which parts.

In 2020, journalist Alan C. Logan presented evidence suggesting that much of Abagnale's story was invented or exaggerated.
