Felix Abt

Felix Abt is a Swiss business affairs specialist known for his work in North Korea and Vietnam. Born on 15 January 1955 in Switzerland, he was one of the first foreign entrepreneurs to operate in contemporary North Korea. He lived there from 2002 to 2009, developing and operating businesses.

Abt co-founded and directed the Pyongyang Business School, where he played a significant role in capacity building related to business administration for senior executives of North Korean government agencies and enterprises. In 2014, he published a memoir titled A Capitalist in North Korea: My Seven Years in the Hermit Kingdom.

Beyond his work in North Korea, Felix Abt is a serial entrepreneur. He has held senior executive roles at multinational corporations such as the Swiss-Swedish ABB Group, a global leader in automation and power technologies; the F. Hoffmann-La Roche Group, a global leader in healthcare; and the Zuellig Group Inc., a leading Asian distribution and trading group. He has also worked with smaller and medium-sized enterprises in both mature and emerging markets.

Felix Abt has lived and worked in nine countries across three continents, including Vietnam and North Korea. His approach to working abroad has always been to learn and observe without passing judgment or propagating his personal views.
