Eric Lomax

Eric Sutherland Lomax (30 May 1919 – 8 October 2012) was a British Army officer who gained notoriety for his harrowing experiences during World War II. Captured by Japanese forces in 1942, he endured the horrors of a prisoner-of-war camp. His memoir, The Railway Man, vividly chronicles these experiences and the lasting impact they had on his life. This acclaimed work earned him the 1996 NCR Book Award and the PEN/Ackerley Prize for Autobiography.
