Elizabeth Vaughan

Elizabeth Vaughan is a renowned Welsh soprano who later transitioned into a mezzo-soprano. Born in Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire, she honed her musical skills at the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Olive Groves.

Vaughan made her operatic debut in Cardiff with the Welsh National Opera, portraying the role of Abigaille in Nabucco in 1960, a role she reprised at Sadler's Wells. Her career quickly blossomed as she graced the stage of the Royal Opera House in 1961 as Isotta in Die schweigsame Frau and captivated audiences at the Metropolitan Opera in 1972 as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni.

In 1984, her portrayal of Lady Penelope Rich in Gloriana at the English National Opera was televised, showcasing her immense talent to a broader audience. Additionally, she appeared on screen in the 1982 film Victor/Victoria as an opera singer.
