Elizabeth Vaughan

Elizabeth Vaughan is a renowned Welsh soprano, later transitioning to a mezzo-soprano. Born in Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire, she honed her craft at the Royal Academy of Music under the guidance of Olive Groves. Her debut performance took place in Cardiff with the Welsh National Opera as Abigaille in Nabucco in 1960, a role she also performed at Sadler's Wells.

In 1961, she graced the stage at the Royal Opera House as Isotta in Die schweigsame Frau, and her talent took her to the Metropolitan Opera in 1972, where she performed as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. Her portrayal of Lady Penelope Rich in a 1984 production of Gloriana at the English National Opera was televised, showcasing her exceptional skills to a wider audience.

Vaughan also appeared on screen in other performances, including as an opera singer in the 1982 film Victor/Victoria.
