Elizabeth Kerner

Elizabeth Kerner is an American fantasy writer. She is best known as the author of Song in the Silence, The Lesser Kindred, and Redeeming the Lost, which form the initial trilogy of a series centered around humans re-establishing contact with dragons, who had retreated from mortal lands thousands of years ago.

An American by birth, she relocated to Scotland in 1976 to attend the University of St. Andrews, where she earned an MA (Hons) in English Language and Literature in 1981. Throughout her life, she has lived in various places including New Orleans, East Sussex, Edinburgh, Hilo, Hawaii, and Forest Grove, Oregon, before returning to Edinburgh.

In her professional journey, she has been apprenticed to several artisans, primarily in Hilo, including a goldsmith and a book binder, and had a brief stint as an assistant furniture and artwork restorer. In 1995, she moved back to Edinburgh and worked for six years, intermittently, as a copy-editor for the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, a leading astronomy journal.

In 2002, she married Dr. Steven Beard, maintaining her connection to the field of astronomy. She currently resides with her husband and two cats in a small town on the Firth of Forth and is working on the next three books in the Kolmar series.
