Elizabeth Berg is a renowned American novelist. Born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, she spent part of her life in Boston before moving to Chicago. Initially studying English and Humanities at the University of Minnesota, she eventually earned a degree in nursing. Her writing career began with a bang when she won an essay contest in Parents magazine.
Since her debut novel in 1993, Berg's books have sold in large numbers and garnered numerous awards and nominations. However, some critics have labeled her work as sentimental. Notably, she won the New England Book Awards in 1997.
Her novels Durable Goods, Joy School, and True to Form form a trilogy about a 12-year-old girl named Katie Nash, partially based on Berg's own experiences as a daughter in a military family.
