Elena Favilli is an Italian-American author, speaker, and media entrepreneur, born on August 3, 1982. She is best known as the co-creator of the immensely successful book series Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls, which broke records for literary funding on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter.
Favilli studied semiotics at the University of Bologna, Italy, and digital journalism at U.C. Berkeley. Her work has been featured in various prestigious publications including Colors, McSweeney's, RAI, Il Post, and La Repubblica. In 2011, alongside Francesca Cavallo, she founded Timbuktu Labs, known for publishing a children's magazine for iPads also named Timbuktu. This innovative magazine presents news to children in an entertaining way using colorful images, easy-to-read language, and sound, with a unique scrolling format.
The first volume of Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls was published in 2016 and has since been translated into over 30 languages.
