Drew Karpyshyn is a Canadian video game scenario writer, scriptwriter, and novelist of Ukrainian descent. He is well known for his work with BioWare, where he served as a senior writer for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and was the lead writer for the first two Mass Effect video games.

Karpyshyn initially worked at a credit union before transitioning into game development. He joined BioWare towards the end of the Baldur's Gate series and wrote the tie-in novel for Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal. He left BioWare in 2012 to focus on his Chaos Born novels, returned in 2015, and left again in 2018 to pursue independent work.
