Donalyn Miller is an award-winning Texas educator and a passionate advocate for free reading. She has inspired countless students as a teacher and has worked with a diverse range of upper elementary and middle school students. Currently, she teaches fifth grade at O.A. Peterson Elementary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Her popular book, The Book Whisperer, reflects on her journey to becoming a reading teacher and describes her innovative methods to motivate her middle school students to read 40 or more books a year. In her latest work, Reading in the Wild, Donalyn gathers insights from 900 adult readers to teach lifelong reading habits.
Donalyn is the co-founder of The Nerdy Book Club blog and co-writes a monthly column for Scholastic’s Principal-to-Principal Newsletter. Her articles on teaching and reading have reached a broad audience.
Besides her books, Donalyn's recent works include The Joy of Reading (Heinemann, 2022), co-authored with Dr. Teri Lesesne, and The Commonsense Guide to Your Classroom Library (Scholastic, 2022), co-written with Colby Sharp. Her extensive experience includes roles as a literacy coach, program advisor, workshop and conference presenter, and education writer.
Donalyn dedicates her time to several advisory boards and literacy committees, contributing to local, state, and national initiatives. She lives in San Antonio with her husband, Don, surrounded by a treasured collection of books and comics.
