Deon Meyer

Deon Godfrey Meyer is a South African thriller novelist, known for his crime and thriller fiction. Born in the South African town of Paarl in the winelands of the Western Cape in July 1958, Meyer grew up in Klerksdorp, in the gold mining region of Northwest Province.

After completing his military duty and studying at the University of Potchefstroom, Meyer began his career as a reporter for Die Volksblad, a daily Afrikaans newspaper in Bloemfontein. Over the years, he has worked in various roles including press liaison, advertising copywriter, creative director, web manager, internet strategist, and brand consultant.

Meyer wrote his first book at the age of 14, but it wasn't until his early thirties that he began publishing fiction seriously. His works, primarily written in Afrikaans, have been translated into 28 languages, and they often reflect the cultural diversity in contemporary South Africa. Meyer has also written numerous scripts for television and film.

He is a recipient of several awards, including the Grand Prix de Littérature Policière in 2003 and the Prix Mystère de la critique in 2004. Meyer currently resides in Melkbosstrand, South Africa, with his family.
