Deborah Moggach is a British writer, born Deborah Hough on 28 June 1948. She is an accomplished playwright, novelist, and screenwriter and has authored nineteen novels, including iconic works such as The Ex-Wives (1993), Tulip Fever (1999), and These Foolish Things (2004), which was adapted into the film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Her film scripts include Pride and Prejudice (2005), which garnered a BAFTA nomination. In addition to novels, she has penned short story collections and a stage play.
Her contributions to literature have been recognized with an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the University of Bristol in February 2005. Moggach is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, a former Chair of the Society of Authors, and serves on the executive committee of PEN.
