David Liss (born March 16, 1966) is an American writer known for his novels, essays, and short fiction, and has more recently ventured into comic books. He was born in New Jersey and grew up in South Florida. Liss holds a BA from Syracuse University, an MA from Georgia State University, and an M. Phil from Columbia University. He transitioned to full-time writing in 2010 after leaving his post-graduate studies in 18th Century British literature.
Most of Liss' works are historical-mystery or historical-thriller novels, with settings in 18th-century London and America, and 17th-century Amsterdam. His debut novel, A Conspiracy of Paper (2000), won the 2001 Edgar Award for Best First Novel. Other notable works include The Coffee Trader, which was named a New York Times Notable Book. Additionally, he has contributed to numerous comics projects for Marvel and Dynamite.
David Liss is a member of the International Thriller Writers and is a regular attendee at events like Bouchercon and Thrillerfest. He resides in San Antonio, Texas, with his wife and children.
