David Casarett, M.D., is a renowned physician, researcher, and tenured professor at the Duke University School of Medicine. He serves as the chief of palliative care and director of the Duke Center for Palliative Care.
Casarett resides in Durham, North Carolina, and is dedicated to improving systems of care for individuals with serious, life-threatening illnesses. He has authored over 100 articles in prestigious journals such as JAMA and The New England Journal of Medicine. His writings have also appeared in Salon, Esquire, Discover, Newsweek, the New York Times, and Wired.
He is a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the highest honor granted by the US government to early-career researchers. Beyond non-fiction, Dr. Casarett has authored three books, including Stoned: A Doctor’s Case for Medical Marijuana, published in 2015 by Penguin Random House.
