Darrius Garrett is an American-Rwandan professional basketball player who last played for Iraklis of the Greek Basket League. He played college basketball for the University of Richmond.
In addition to his basketball career, Darrius Garrett is an accomplished author, songwriter, and motivational speaker. He transitioned from the inner-city youth of Long Beach, California to become a humanitarian and a New York Times bestselling author. He co-wrote The Freedom Writers Diary, which inspired the movie The Freedom Writers starring Hilary Swank, where he was portrayed as the character Marcus. Furthermore, he wrote the song "Change" for the movie's soundtrack. As a Freedom Writer, Garrett co-received the Spirit of Anne Frank Award.
