Dallas Willard

Dallas Albert Willard (September 4, 1935 – May 8, 2013) was an American philosopher renowned for his contributions to Christian spiritual formation. He was a prominent figure in the field of phenomenology, particularly known for translating many of Edmund Husserl's writings into English.

Willard was a longtime Professor of Philosophy at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where he taught from 1965 until his death in 2013. He also served as the department chair from 1982 to 1985.

In addition to his work at USC, he taught at the University of Wisconsin (Madison) between 1960 and 1965 and held visiting appointments at UCLA in 1969 and the University of Colorado in 1984.

His educational background included undergraduate studies at William Jewell College, Tennessee Temple College (where he obtained a B.A. in Psychology in 1956), and Baylor University (B.A. in Philosophy and Religion in 1957). He completed his graduate studies at Baylor University and the University of Wisconsin, earning a Ph.D. in Philosophy with a minor in the History of Science in 1964.
