Christopher Shields, born on July 26, 1958, is an esteemed American philosopher currently holding the Henry E. Allison Endowed Chair in the History of Philosophy at the University of California San Diego. Before his current position, he served as the George N. Shuster Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame.
Shields has a profound interest in Ancient philosophy, with a particular focus on Aristotle. His academic journey took him through prestigious institutions, earning a PhD from Cornell University and both a BA and MA from Bowling Green State University.
Aside from his academic contributions, he has played a significant role as the editor of Notre Dame Philosophical Reviews. Shields lives in Northwest Arkansas with his family and three dogs. He is also a professor of criminal justice at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He cherishes his times with students during the day and dedicates his nights to writing.
