Christopher Barzak is an American author, born on July 21, 1975. He began his publishing career with short stories, his first being "A Mad Tea Party" in Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet in 1999. In 2007, Barzak published his debut novel, One for Sorrow, which garnered significant attention by winning the 2008 Crawford Award and being nominated for the 2008 Great Lakes Book Award and Logo TV's NewNowNext Awards. His second novel, The Love We Share Without Knowing, was named a finalist for the 2008 James Tiptree Jr. Award and the 2009 Nebula Awards for Best Novel. In addition to his novels, Barzak has published a short story collection, Before and Afterlives, which won the Shirley Jackson Award for Best Single-Author Collection in 2013.
Another significant work is his third novel, Wonders of the Invisible World, which received the Stonewall Honor from the American Library Association and was included on the Human Rights Campaign’s list of books for libraries in LGBTQ welcoming schools. He has also authored Birds and Birthdays, a collection of surrealist fantasy stories, and Before and Afterlives, a collection of supernatural fantasies.
