Chris Wooding

Chris Wooding is a British writer born in Leicester, currently residing in London. He wrote his first book, Crashing, at the age of nineteen, and it was published in 1998 when he was twenty-one. Since then, he has penned many more works, including The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray, which was the silver runner-up for the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize, and Poison, which won the Lancashire Children's Book of the Year.

Chris is the author of several series: Broken Sky, an anime-influenced fantasy for children; Braided Path, a fantasy trilogy for adults; and Malice, a young adult fantasy that combines elements of a graphic novel with a traditional novel. He has also created the four-part series, Tales of the Ketty Jay, a steampunk sci-fi fantasy for adults.

Growing up in a small town in Leicestershire, Chris began writing novels at sixteen. By eighteen, he had an agent, and by nineteen, he had secured his first book deal. He has been writing professionally his entire adult life. To date, Chris has written over twenty books, which have been translated into twenty languages and have won various awards globally. Besides novels, he writes for film and television, with several projects in the pipeline.

Chris has traveled extensively, backpacking across Europe, North America, Scandinavia, South East Asia, Japan, and South Africa. He also lived in Madrid for a time. In his twenties, Chris spent time touring with bands across the UK and Europe.

Interestingly, Chris discovered that his family tree can be traced back to John Milton, author of Paradise Lost, although this has no bearing on his work. He lives in London.
