Charlie Mackesy

Charlie Mackesy is a renowned British artist, illustrator, and author known for his heartfelt and inspiring works. Born on December 11, 1962, in Northumberland, Mackesy started his career as a cartoonist for The Spectator before becoming a book illustrator for Oxford University Press. He has collaborated with notable figures such as Richard Curtis for Comic Relief and Nelson Mandela on a lithograph project called 'The Unity Series.'


His most famous work, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, published in 2019, has received numerous accolades, including being the first book to win both the Waterstones Book of the Year and Barnes and Noble Book of the Year. This book, translated into over 40 languages, has touched the hearts of readers worldwide.


Charlie's art has been displayed in galleries and public spaces internationally, and his paintings have been exhibited in prestigious locations like Sotheby's in London. His bronzes are also publically displayed in London. Apart from his artistic endeavors, Charlie co-runs Mama Buci, a social enterprise in Zambia's copperbelt, helping families with low to no income become beekeepers.


He resides between Brixton and Suffolk with his dog Barney and continues to inspire people globally with his art and words.
