Caroline Alexander

Caroline Sarah J. Alexander is a former cross-country mountain biker and road cyclist, born on March 3, 1968, in Barrow-in-Furness. Initially a swimmer, she did not cycle until the age of 20. Her first competitive cycling experience was in a triathlon, where she excelled in the cycling segment. She quickly rose to prominence, becoming one of the top three mountain-bike racers in the UK within a year.

She left her job as a draughtswoman in Barrow shipyards to pursue a full-time career in cycling. Caroline represented Britain at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. She also participated in the UCI Women's Road World Cup events in 2002 and represented Scotland in the first mountain-bike event at the Commonwealth Games in 2002. Notably, she was the first British female mountain biker to win a UCI World Cup stage in 1997.

Alexander retired from competitive cycling in 2004. In recognition of her contributions to the sport, she was inducted into the British Cycling Hall of Fame in 2009.
