Carley's background in journalism is solidified by her Bachelor of Journalism degree from Toronto Metropolitan University. She has lived in both the suburbs of Sydney, Australia, and Barry's Bay, a quaint lakeside town in rural Ontario, which serves as the backdrop for her first book.
