Brother Andrew

Andrew "Anne" van der Bijl (11 May 1928 – 27 September 2022), known in English-speaking countries as Brother Andrew, was a Dutch Christian missionary and founder of the Christian organization Open Doors. He gained fame for smuggling Bibles and other Christian literature into communist countries during the Cold War, activities that earned him the nickname "God's Smuggler".

Brother Andrew studied at the WEC Missionary Training College in Glasgow, Scotland. He was born in Sint Pancras, the Netherlands, and was the fourth of seven children to a poor, near-deaf blacksmith.
