Beth Gutcheon

Beth Gutcheon is a best-selling American author known for her work as a novelist and screenwriter. She was born and raised in western Pennsylvania and graduated from Harvard University with an honors degree in English literature.

After initially working in the editorial department of a Boston publishing house, Gutcheon moved to New York City’s SoHo district, where she freelanced in the arts during the 1970s. Her foray into screenwriting included writing the narration for the Academy Award-nominated documentary, The Children of Theatre Street.

Since 1978, when she published her first novel, The New Girls, Gutcheon has pursued a full-time career in storytelling. She has authored ten novels, which have been translated into fourteen languages, including a pirate Chinese edition of Still Missing. This novel was later adapted into the feature film Without a Trace, for which she wrote the screenplay for 20th Century Fox.

Gutcheon has contributed to several prestigious publications, including New York Magazine, The New York Times, The New York Times Book Review, and Conde Nast Traveler. She resides in New York City.
