Ben Kane

Ben Kane is an Irish novelist known for his captivating historical fiction. Born on March 6, 1970, he has gained renown for his series such as Forgotten Legion, Spartacus, and Hannibal. His book, Hannibal: Enemy of Rome, became a Sunday Times bestseller in 2011, and he has garnered multiple bestsellers since. His works, translated into 14 languages, have sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide.

In 2013, Kane, along with friends, undertook a charity walk along Hadrian's Wall, clad in full Roman military gear, raising nearly £19,000 for Combat Stress and Medecins Sans Frontieres. A subsequent walk in Italy in 2014 raised over £26,500 and was documented in the film The Road to Rome, narrated by Ian McKellen. Recognition of his historical research earned him an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from Bristol University in 2016.

Further showcasing his passion for history, Kane actively supports the Park in the Past project, aimed at constructing a Roman fort near Chester. In May 2023, he announced a four-book deal with Orion, and in May 2024, he published the novel Stormcrow, set in Ireland. October 2024 saw the dramatic rights to A Day of Fire: A Novel of Pompeii sold to Amazon MGM Studios and Scott Free Productions.

Kane, who also has a background as a veterinarian, was born in Kenya but raised in Ireland, reflecting his parents' origins. A lifelong learner of military and Roman history, he resides in North Somerset, England, with his family.
