Andrew Sean Greer is an American novelist and short story writer, born on November 21, 1970. He is the recipient of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his novel Less. Greer is also known for his works The Story of a Marriage, praised by The New York Times as an "inspired, lyrical novel," and The Confessions of Max Tivoli, which was recognized as one of the best books of 2004 by the San Francisco Chronicle and won the California Book Award.
Born to two scientists, Greer pursued his passion for writing under the mentorship of Robert Coover and Edmund White at Brown University. His academic journey was notable, as he became the commencement speaker at his graduation, delivering unrehearsed remarks that critiqued Brown's admissions policies, leading to a semi-riot.
Following his academic endeavors, Greer explored various professions in New York, including roles as a chauffeur, theater technician, television extra, and writer, before eventually relocating to Missoula, Montana.
