Anchee Min

Anchee Min (born January 14, 1957) is a Chinese-American author who resides in San Francisco and Shanghai. Min has published two memoirs, Red Azalea and The Cooked Seed: A Memoir, alongside six historical novels.

Her fiction is renowned for emphasizing strong female characters, such as Jiang Qing, the wife of chairman Mao Zedong, and Empress Dowager Cixi, the last ruling empress of China.

At the age of seventeen, Min was sent to a labor collective where she was discovered by a talent scout for Madame Mao's Shanghai Film Studio. This opportunity led her to work as a movie actress.

In 1984, with the assistance of her friend, actress Joan Chen, Min moved to the United States. Her debut memoir, Red Azalea, became an international bestseller, published in twenty countries. She has since published six novels, including Pearl of China.
