Ana María Matute

Ana María Matute (26 July 1925 – 25 June 2014) was a renowned Spanish writer and a distinguished member of the Real Academia Española. She emerged as one of the most significant voices in Spanish literature during the post-Civil War era, often referred to as the posguerra period.

In 1959, she was awarded the prestigious Premio Nadal for her novel Primera memoria. Matute was the third woman to be honored with the Cervantes Prize, a testament to her impressive literary achievements.

Her literary debut came with the novel Los Abel in 1948, which drew inspiration from the biblical story of the sons of Adam and Eve, reflecting the post-war Spanish atmosphere through a child's perspective. This unique narrative approach was a hallmark of her early works and was shared by other writers of her generation.
