Amanda Peters is a Canadian writer from Falmouth, Nova Scotia, recognized for her exceptional contribution to literature.
Her debut novel, The Berry Pickers, has garnered significant acclaim, winning the 2024 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, the 2023 Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Award, the 2024 Crime Writers of Canada Award of Excellence, and the 2024 Dartmouth Book Award for Fiction.
Amanda Peters is of Mi’kmaw and settler ancestry, and her literary work has been featured in various prestigious publications including the Antigonish Review, Grain Magazine, The Alaska Quarterly Review, the Dalhousie Review, and filling station magazine.
She achieved recognition by winning the 2021 Indigenous Voices Award (IVA) for unpublished prose and was a participant in the 2021 Writers Trust Rising Stars program.
Academically accomplished, Amanda holds a certificate in creative writing from the University of Toronto and is a graduate of the Master of Fine Arts program at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Currently, she serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of English and Theatre at Acadia University. Amanda resides and writes in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, where she lives with her beloved fur babies, Holly and Pook.
